SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Converse University head swim coach Logan Simpson announces the hiring of assistant coach Marcella Da Costa.
“I am extremely excited to bring Marcella on board as our new Assistant Coach,” Simpson said. “She brings a wealth of high level swimming experience and a deep knowledge of the sport. Marcella is coming off a stint with an excellent program at Oakland, where she gained hands-on experience with all facets of a championship team. I can’t wait to see the impact she will make on Converse swimming and our student-athletes.”
This past summer both Da Costa and Simpson worked together at the Auburn University Swim Camp. Most recently, Da Costa was a graduate assistant at Oakland University and helped the team win back-to-back men’s and women’s Horizon League Championships. As a graduate assistant, she had a broad portfolio of responsibilities that included on-deck coaching, on-campus recruiting, practice planning and administrative work.
Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Da Costa competed for Eastern Michigan, where she was a three-time Academic All-MAC selection. Da Costa excelled in both the freestyle and butterfly events and earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors during her time at Eastern Michigan.
Da Costa graduated with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management while minoring in Marketing at Eastern Michigan, before acquiring an MBA degree at Oakland University.
