Caitlin Cairns from Colorado Springs, Colorado has announced her intention to swim for the University of Nebraska next year. She’ll suit up with Allison Henry, Ella Stein, and Sarah Barton in the class of 2024.

Cairns is a senior at St. Mary’s High School in Colorado Springs. She swims year-round with Pikes Peak Athletics and specializes mainly in fly and free. She won the 50 free (24.19) and was runner-up in the 100 fly (56.88) as a sophomore at the 2018 CHSAA 3A Girls State Championships. Last season she finished second in both events (24.43 for the 50 free, 56.56 for the 100 fly) at the state high school meet. In club swimming, she had a number of strong performances during long course season this past summer, including PBs in the 100m free, 50m back, 50/100m fly, and 200m IM. She had another good meet at Phoenix Sectionals in the spring, hitting best times in the 100/200y free, 100y fly, and 200y IM.

Cairns will join a Nebraska fly group led by juniors Izzie Murray, Clara Walstad, and Madison Coughlen, who went 53.85, 55.32, and 55.94, respectively last year.
