CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women defeated Southern Indiana 188.5-91.5 in their Senior Day meet on Friday afternoon inside Busbey Natatorium. The Vikings honored their four seniors; Rachel ContichCaroline HughesValentina Rengifo, and Hayley Rupp.

Head Coach Hannah Burandt said, “I am so happy and proud to send our seniors off with a big win at home this afternoon. We allowed our seniors to pick their events this afternoon which made it even more special for them. For the rest of the team, it was a chance to swim their events as a tune-up for conference and the rest of the season.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Grace ChelfGrace ButcherEllie Mckibbin, and Ana Sofia Sousa opened the meet with a victory, clocking a 1:49.90.

Mackenzie Lipnick won the first individual race, the 1000-yard freestyle after finishing in 10:46.04. In the 200-yard freestyle, Contich touched the wall first with a time of 1:57.15.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Hughes won with a 1:00.26, and in the 100-yard breaststroke, Grace Butcher won with a 1:08.71.

Madison Taker took home the win in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:11.62 and in the 50-yard freestyle, Sousa sprinted to a first-place time of 25.15.

After the diving break, Holly White sprinted to a time of 56.35 to win the 100-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard backstroke, Gracie Chelf was victorious, turning in a time of 2:08.79.

Butcher edged her competition in the 200-yard breaststroke to win her second event of the day with a time of 2:29.13.

Sousa squeaked out a win in the 500-yard freestyle as she finished in 5:18.83, her second victory of the afternoon. Hughes then won the 100-yard butterfly after clocking a 59.80.

In the final individual race of the day, Olivia Leonard won the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:49.37.

Cleveland State made it a perfect day as the team of Mckibbin, White, Sousa, and Chelf won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.31.

Brooke Eichel won both diving events on the afternoon with scores of 243.38 in 3m and 253.65 in 1m.

Cleveland State will head to Canisius on Thursday, January 12 for a 1 p.m. dual meet and then get back into the next pool on the next day at Niagara.

Jake Taulbee took the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 9:43.23.

Eberhardt nabbed first place in the 200-yard freestyle after clocking a 1:42.29.

Kenny Thomas sprinted to a win in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 51.25, and then Manning won the 100-yard breaststroke with a 57.34.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Johnston won with a 1:51.23 and in the 50-yard freestyle, Merchbaker sprinted to a first-place time of 21.91.

Following the diving break, Green sprinted to a win in the 100-yard freestyle with a 46.57, and then Jackson Nester won the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:50.54.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, Tyler Schultze claimed first place after touching the wall in 2:08.66. Tussing then touched the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:43.66.

Andrew Arslanian won the 100-yard butterfly after touching the wall in 54.16 and in the final individual race of the day, Nester won the 400-yard IM with a 4:04.04.

The Vikings made it a perfect day as the team of Quinn Degraaf, Thomas, Green, and Johnston won with a time of 1:24.90.

CLEVELAND, Ohio. – University of Southern Indiana Women’s Swimming & Diving fell to Cleveland State University on Friday afternoon, 188.5-91.5. This was the Screaming Eagles first meet of the new year and their first since early November.

While USI was not able to claim a victory in an event, they did record eight second place finishes. Freshman Hannah Gardner (Bowling Green, Kentucky) led the was the only swimmer to have two second place finishes. Gardner and freshman Mattilynn Smith (Morgantown, Kentucky) led the Eagles, securing 10 points each. Sophomore Adele Schnautz (Evansville, Indiana) was close behind the two with nine points. Freshmen Kate Hilgarth (Indianapolis, Indiana), Sarah-Catherine Dawson (Prospect, Kentucky), and Emily McIntosh (Huntertown, Indiana) all finished with above five points as well.

Freshman Autumn Turley (Hobart, Indiana) brought in eight points for the Eagles in diving. Turley recorded a 144.68 in the 1-meter and a 142.88 in the 3-meter.

UP NEXT FOR USI:
The Eagles will travel to Charleston, Illinois on January 14 to take on Eastern Illinois Univeristy. This will be USI’s final road meet of the season before returning home January 21 to finish the regular season against Southern Illinois University at the USI Aquatics Center.

The Panthers currently sit with a 2-3 record in dual meets this season. They were victorious over Bellarmine University and Valparaiso University while losses came from Ball State University, the University of Evansville, and Illinois State University. EIU opened their season at the Butler Invite, falling to all five opponents. Most recently they competed at the A3 Performance Invitational, where they finished third, USI took fifth. The Panthers will take on Lewis University on Saturday before hosting the Eagles a week later.

CLEVELAND, Ohio. – University of Southern Indiana Men’s Swimming & Diving fell to Cleveland State University on Friday afternoon, 204-82. This was the Screaming Eagles first meet of the new year and their first since early November.

USI had a tough day in the pool as the Eagles weren’t able to secure a victory in any event and had just eight top three finishes. Freshman Carson Faley (Dixon, Illinois) led the way for USI, earning seven points in his three events. Freshmen Gabriel Groves (New Carlisle, Indiana) and Chris Brown (Mattawan, Michigan) closely followed Faley with six points each, Groves in two events and Brown in three.

The Eagles were able to earn all 13 points from both diving events. Freshman Donnevun Banks won both events for USI in his first meet with the team, scoring a 198.75 in the 1-meter and a 187.58 in the 3-meter. Freshman Lane Pollock (Boonville, Indiana) finished right behind Banks in both events, earning a 163.58 in the 1-meter and a 177.3 in the 3-meter.
