The Sandpipers of Nevada will race at this week’s Speedo Sectionals meet in Justin, Texas, north of Fort Worth.
The lineup includes Olympic silver medalist Claire Weinstein, US National Team members Luke Ellis and Gabriel Manteufel, and US Junior National Team member Sianna Savarda.
Weinstein is focused on her specialty the middle-to-distance freestyles at the meet, entered in the 200 free, 500 free, 1000 free, and 1650 frees. She is the top seed in all of those events, where she will be chased by not only her Sandpiper teammates, but a few local products like Madalyn Petty, who won the Texas High School State Championship in the 500 free last month as just a high school freshman (4:45.05). Petty is scheduled to swim the 1000 free, but not the 500, at this meet.
Weinstein, who turned 18 last Saturday, won an Olympic silver medal as a member of the U.S. 800 free relay team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. More recently, she won an 800 free relay gold and an individual 200 free bronze at the World Short Course Championships in Budapest in December.
On the boys’ side, the highlights include Maximus Williamson, who at the same Texas High School State Championship meet smashed three National High School Records, including a mind-bending 1:30.46 in the 200 free. He trains with the host Lakeside Aquatic Club.
Williamson is scheduled to race the 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 back, 50 free, 100 fly, and 500 free, all events that he didn’t race at the high school championship meet.
Other big names on the boys side include National Junior Teamer Rowan Cox and National Junior Teamer Bucky Gettys.
The meet is attracting not only Texas talent, but high level age groupers from across the country. That includes the Pleasanton Seahawks from California and standout 14-year-old Daniela Linares, the top seed in the 100 and 200 back, though her teammate Luka Mijatovic is not entered. The Clovis Swim Club, also from California, likewise chose this meet.
Other out-of-state teams represented at the meet include Crawfish Aquatics and Nu Wave Swim Club from Louisiana, Tucson Ford Aquatics from Arizona, and the Hillsboro Heat from Oregon.
This is one of two Sectionals meets happening this week, with the other being hosted at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, North Carolina. Psych sheets for that meet have not yet been released.
It’s a short 30 minute drive from where I live and is only 15 to 20 minutes from the DFW International Airport so location is really good
Colton “Robert” Pattison will be there too🔥🔥
I believe Luka is swimming in the TYR pro series instead of this meet.
Never heard of Justin, TX.
I lived in Texas for 20 years and honestly I hadn’t either until they started hosting Sectionals meets. It’s a teeny tiny town way north of Fort Worth that is growing rapidly like all teeny tiny towns in Texas inevitably do as the various metro areas sprawl in search of ever-cheaper land.
One of the nicest pools in texas imo
Pool is only about 5 years old. And yes the area which is a suburb of Fort Worth is rapidly growing.
And is next to Texas Motor Speedway
its a nice design, but the pool is a bit dim lit for my liking.
Looks like a great lineup
Is this news Just In. Haha HA I’ll SEE myself out!
Legalize comedy! 🤣🤣🤣
