Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan of China won the women’s 10 meter synchro event on Wednesday, keeping China’s hopes alive to sweep all eight diving events. So far, China has gone three for three.
China won seven out of the eight diving events in Tokyo, with the lone exception being the men’s 10 meter synchro event which they already won here in Paris this week. Chen and Quan dove to a final score of a 359.10. The two led the whole way after leading with a first round score of a 56.40. Their highest score was a 85.44 which came in the 4th round. The two were also the only divers to score more than 80 points on a dive, which they did so three times.
Chen notably defended her title from Tokyo after she won gold in the event in Tokyo alongside partner Zhang Jiaqi.
Winning silver was Kim Mi Rae and Jin Mi Jo of North Korea as they had a final score of a 315.90. The two were 7th after the first round dive but climbed back into the podium and were 2nd after the 4th round. The silver adds North Korea to the diving medal table as well.
Great Britain’s Lois Toulson and Andrea Spendolini Sirieix scored a 304.38 for bronze. The two were in 4th place heading into the final round but saved their best for last, scoring a 77.76 in the final round to move past Canadian’s Caeli McKay and Kate Miller who finished 4th (299.22).
