PRESS RELEASE – CENTRAL CONNECTICUT
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team narrowly edged Northeast Conference rival Long Island University, 133-129, on Saturday at LIU Pool in Brooklyn, NY. The Blue Devils came away the victors in six events.

KEY PERFORMANCES
- The Blue Devils’ first win of the meet came in the 100 yard breaststroke. Sophomore Alex Lindgren won the event (1:07.60) narrowly edging classmate Mariana Espino (1:07.92). Junior Katelyn Mann placed fourth (1:09.33).
- CCSU finished first and second in the 50 yard freestyle. Sophomores Hallie Perrin (25.47) and Simona Visinski (25.68) took the top two spots. Classmate Destiny Johnson placed fourth in 26.13.
- Central swept the top three spots in the 100 yard free. Sophomore Katie Czulewicz (53.98) led the way followed by senior Erika Maercklein (54.56) and sophomore Jeannette King (56.06).
- Lindgren won her second event of the day, winning the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:22.99. Freshman Abby Bacon earned a point with a time of 2:32.47.
- Maercklein won the 500 yard free with a time of 5:13.10. Seniors Grace Regan (5:17.49) and Grace Fredricks (5:26.48) also scored in the event for CCSU.
- The Blue Devils won the 200 yard freestyle relay in the final event of the day. The team of Maercklein, Johnson, Regan and freshman Shannon Welcome won with a time of 1:39.10.

PRESS RELEASE – LIU
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – In the last dual meet of the regular season, the Long Island University women’s swimming team fell just short in one of their closest meets of the year to Central Connecticut State, 133-129. The meet came down to the final event, where the Blue Devils just outtouched the Sharks to take the win.
Prior to the meet, LIU honored the two members of their squad graduating this May: senior Noemie Lacroix-Moreau, and junior Kyleigh Barao.
LIU started the meet on a hot note, winning the 400 medley relay by just nine hundredths of a second. The team of Amanda Peren, Tara Cabiling, Lacroix-Moreau and Jeanne Touchette-McGowan won with a time of 4:01.10, just ahead of CCSU’s A team, who touched in 4:01.19.
The Sharks followed that up with a win in the 1000 free, as freshman Reyna Iwamoto took the top spot with a time of 10:43.47. Peren would follow that up with a win in the 200 free, and LIU also took the top three spots in the 100 back, led by Jacqueline Grabowski’s top time of 1:00.33, freshman Aidan Condit’s second place finish with a time of 1:00.90, and Touchette-McGowan in third (1:01.44).
Lacroix-Moreau added a win for the Sharks in the 200 butterfly (2:12.83), but CCSU would take the top spots in the 100 breast and both the 50 and 100 frees to keep close to LIU. Peren would also win the 200 back (2:04.74), but CCSU made up the difference by winning the 200 breast and the 500 free. Lacroix-Moreau kept LIU in the fight with her win in the 100 fly (58.75), and Peren added her third win of the day in the 200 IM (2:08.05), and the meet came down to the final event of the day, the 200 free relay.
In the end, CCSU’s depth proved to be the difference, as they finished first and second in the event, scoring the 15 team points they need to come from behind and take the win, 133-129.
Up next for the Sharks is the 2020 Northeast Conference Championship meet, taking place at the Nassau County Aquatics Center, February 19-22.
