CCSA Weekly Awards go to Gardner-Webb’s Lile, FGCU’s Svensson and Collins

Men’s press release:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) – Gardner-Webb’s Nathan Lile (Waynesville, N.C.) has been named CCSA Men’s Swimmer of the Week for meets contested Sept. 26 – Oct. 5, 2014, the League announced Tuesday.

Lile competed at the North Carolina Invitational in Greensboro and swam anchor in the 200 medley relay, which finished in ninth place with a time of 1:35.90. He took third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.95 and ninth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:13.93). The junior also finished seventh in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:08.83.

Four conference teams return to the pool Oct. 10-11 in dual meets across the country.

Women’s press release:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) – Florida Gulf Coast’s Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden) has been named the CCSA Women’s Swimmer of the Week, while Cayla Collins (Largo, Fla.) of Florida Gulf Coast has been selected as CCSA Women’s Diver of the Week for meets contested Sept. 26 – Oct. 5, 2014, the League announced Tuesday.

Svensson competed at the All-Florida Invite and finished third as anchor in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:32.91 with a 22.03 split. She placed second in the 50 freestyle (22.97), third in the 100 free (50.63), fourth as anchor in the 400-yard medley relay (3:43.34; 48.90) and fourth in the 200-yard medley relay (butterfly). The senior swam against some of the nation’s top competitors, including U.S. Olympian Missy Franklin of California-Berkeley, who finished directly ahead of Svensson in second-place for the 100 freestyle (49.87), plus swimmers from the University of Florida, Florida State, Nova Southeastern, Miami and the CCSA’s North Florida.

Collins also competed at the All-Florida Invite in Gainesville, Fla., and placed fifth overall on the 1-meter with a score of 255.83, less than a point behind fourth place. The senior placed fourth on the 3-meter board with a score of 241.66.

Also nominated for CCSA Swimmer of the Week were: Lily Tang (Campbell), Lauren Oglesby (Gardner-Webb), Amy Taylor (North Florida) and Galen Broido (UNC Asheville).

Four conference teams return to the pool Oct. 10-11 in dual meets across the country.

His 50 split in the 200 Med relay was 20.51

Just to clarify, Nate went 1:50.95 in the 200 back, not a 1:40. That was a typo in the CCSA’s article.
