Atlantic 10: Hulseman, Nakano, McCoy & Glenesk Earn Swimming & Diving Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— Saint Louis’ Brendan Hulseman and Davidson’s Meredith Nakano were named the Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Tuesday. Also honored were SLU’s Ryan McCoy, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week, and Mina Glenesk, the Women’s Rookie of the Week. Awards were based off meet performances from the beginning of the season through October 5.

Hulseman, a junior from Winnetka, Ill., jumped out to a quick start this season at the Butler double dual as he turned in times of 46.22 in the 100-yd freestyle and 1:42.75 in the 200-yd freestyle. Additionally, Hulseman posted a time of 50.21 in the 100-yd butterfly at this past weekend’s Show Me Showdown, finishing one second off of a SLU school record.

Nakano, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga., logged four top-six performances and swam critical legs on each of Davidson’s top relays. Nakano recorded fifth-place finishes in both the 100-yd butterfly (57.42) and the 100-yd breaststroke (1:05.85). She also swam the 100-yd freestyle (52.80) and the 200-yd breaststroke (2:21.18) to help lead the Wildcats to a third-place team finish at the All North Carolina College Kickoff.

McCoy, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., recorded the top Saint Louis’ times in the 200-yd freestyle (1:42.56), the 500-yd freestyle (4:43.64), 1,000-yd freestyle (9:51.80) and the 200-yd butterfly (1:55.95).

Glenesk, a native of Austin, Texas, led the Billikens against Washington University as she recorded a time of 1:56.46 in the 200-yd freestyle. She also posted a time of 1:00.19 in the 100-yd butterfly and 2:11.71 in the 200-yd butterfly.

Congrats to Ryan McCoy. One of the toughest back half swimmers, seems like he is never in the lead until the end of the race. Keep it up! Very deserved and earned!
