Carmel Swim Club 17-year-old Sean Sullivan has handed his verbal commitment to the Indiana Hoosiers for the fall of 2023. The high school junior is set to add some sprint free and backstroke depth the Hoosiers, who will be losing a number of their top backstrokers after this season.
As a member of Carmel High School, Sullivan took 3rd in the 100 back at the IHSAA (Indiana HS) state championships this past February. The sophomore also finished 11th in the 100 free, swimming lifetime bests in both events. Over the summer, Sullivan competed at the Indiana Swimming Senior Championships, taking 7th in the LCM 200 back, and 11th in the 200 IM. Later, he would also compete at the Speedo Summer Championship in Greensboro, NC.
Sean Sullivan SCY personal bests:
- 50 free – 21.50
- 100 free – 46.00
- 200 free – 1:43.05
- 100 back – 48.96
- 200 back – 1:48.85
- 200 IM – 1:55.06
- 400 IM – 4:08.50
He also coming off a very successful LCM season, where he clocked backstroke personal bests of 57.66 and 2:06.46. He added a 57.96 100 fly and 2:09.49 200 IM to his resumé as well.
Sullivan will be arriving in Bloomington right when the Hoosiers will be looking for backstroke depth. Indiana will be losing NCAA scoring level backstrokers in Gabriel Fantoni and Jacob Steele after this season. Brendan Burns will be a senior next season, so it could be his last with the Hoosiers, unless he decides to take his 5th year of eligibility, in which case, he and Sullivan will overlap for a season.
