Brown Closes Out Dual Meet Schedule With Decisive Sweep of Cornell

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – Brown women’s swimming and diving cruised to a 226-74 win over Cornell on Saturday to close out the dual meet season.

The Bears earned wins in 13 of the 16 events on the day and swept the top-three spots in nine events.

Sara Barrett had a strong day in the distance events, winning both the 1000 free (10:00.93) and the 500 free (4:56.47).

Anna Podurgiel earned victories in both the 200 freestyle (1:48.71) and the 100 freestyle (50.81).

Jenna Reznicek swept the backstrokes, winning the 100 back in 53.35 and the 200 back in 1:58.49.

In the breaststroke, Kaitlyn Holmes earned wins in the 100 (1:02.83) and the 200 (2:17.15).

Zehra Bilgin earned a win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.46. Sam Scott won the 50 free in 22.77. Yvonne Jia picked up a victory in the 200 IM in a time of 2:02.69.

On the boards, Brown got second-place finishes in both events with Bowie Krawczyk with 297.38 points in the 3-meter and Elena Yeh with 285.23 points in the 1-meter.

Brown also finished first and second in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.

Brown will have one more meet at the Boston Winter Open (Feb. 3-4) before the Ivy League Championships.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men’s swimming and diving team defeated Cornell 212.5-87.5 Saturday afternoon in the team’s final dual meet of the season.

“We picked the right day to show up and have our best dual meet performance of the season,” head coach Kevin Norman said. “The afternoon could not have started better opening with a 1-2 finish in the 200 Medley Relay then sweeping the next three events. When you create that much momentum and energy it’s tough to beat.

“It was clear how much the team wanted to send our three seniors, Vincent HuangTyler Lu and Lukas Scheidl, out with a big win in their last dual meet at Brown. That’s a special class that has contributed so much to our program, I could not be happier for them. They deserved this win.”

In total, Brown won 14 of the 16 events on the day. They swept the podium in four of those including the 500 free, 100 back, 200 free, and 1000 free.

In the 1000 free, Aidan Wilson took first (9:16.40), Andrew Berzolla second (9:23.79), and Max Hardart third (9:26.75.

In the 200 free, the podium finishers in order were Lukas Scheidl (1:39.75), Marcus Lee (1:40.27), and Finlay Page (1:40.92).

In the 100 back, Jerry O’Mara (49.97) took first with Jake Regenwetter (50.44) and Zach Le-Nguyen (50.57) rounding out the podium.

In the Bears’ fourth and final sweep, Berzolla claimed first (4:33.28), Hardart second (4:35.30), and Page third (4:35.61).

All other event wins for the Bears were the 200 medley relay (1:29.18), 400 free relay (3:00.69), 100 breast (Jack Kelly, 54.91), 50 free (Tucker Peterson, 20.76), 100 free (Marcus Lee, 45.32), 200 back (Scheidl, 1:50.03), 200 breast (Kelly, 2:00.46), 100 fly (Chris Ma, 48.81), one-meter dive (Rowland Lawver, 363.83) and three-meter dive (Lawver, 378.53).

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Cornell women’s swim and dive fell 226-74 to Brown to wrap up the 2022-23 regular season slate. The Big Red notched seven podium finishes, including three for first.

The Big Red opened the day with a third place finish in the 200 yard Medley Relay when Aviva Munoz, Emilie BoisrenoultAnna Gruvberger, and Melissa Parker combined for a 1:43.89 finish. The Big Red would not place on the podium again until the 50 yard Freestyle. Boisrenoult tallied a second place finish in the race with a 23..51 second lap. Elise Jendritz would earn the first top of the podium finish in the 3 meter dive with a score of 331.43, over 33 points ahead of second place. Gruvberger would wrap up first in the 100 yard Butterfly with a time of 54.73, followed by a Jendritz sweep in the diving competition. She finished first in the 1 meter with a score of 285.75. The Big Red would wrap up the day with a third place finish by Melissa Parker in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:05.11 and a second place finish in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay by Joelle OhrKate LiPriscilla Wongso, and Boisrenoult. The quad touched the wall at 3:26.11.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Cornell men’s swimming and diving team fell to Brown, 212.5-87.5 in the final road meet of the regular season. The Big Red tallied 13 top-three finishes, including three first place finishes.

The Big Red opened the day with a third place finish in the 200 yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:30.97 swam by Jack BanksSebastian WolffJeremy Marcin, and Will Taner. The Big Red would not earn another podium finish until Wolff swam a 55.18 second 100 yard Breaststroke, good for second place. his time was just .27 seconds behind the first place Brown finisher.

Wolff’s second place finish would spark six-straight podium finishes. Joseph Gurski earned the first top of the podium finish of the day, winning the 200 yard Butterfly with a time of 1:48.14. Mac Marsh would continue the momentum with a third place finish in the 50 yard Freestyle at 20.98, just .06 second behind second. The Swimming events paused briefly for the 1 meter dive, where Soodong Kim placed second with a score of 315.45. Wolff then earned his third podium finish of the day, touching the wall at 45.49 in the 100 yard Freestyle. Pietro Ubertalli would get in on the action with a second place finish in the 200 yard Backstroke at 1:50.45. Jack Valiquette would round out the stretch with a third place finish in the 200 yard Breaststroke at 2:05.45.

For the second straight meet, Cornell would have a perfect first place tie in an event, this time in the 100 yard Butterfly when Gurski and Brown swimmer Chris Ma finished the race at 48.81 seconds. Matthew Warren would wrap up second in the three meter to close out the diving portion, earning a score of 308.40. Wolff earned the third first-place finish for the Big Red, finishing the 200 yard IM at 1:48.98, while Reid Brophy wrapped up third in the same event, touching the wall at 1:51.58. The Big Red day ended with a second place finish by Banks, Gurski, Marsh, and Daniel Simoes in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:01.80.
