The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team opened the 2023 competition schedule with day one of a two-day dual meet with Northeast Conference foe Sacred Heart, Friday night at Suydam Natatorium. The Blue Devils hold a 124-62 advantage, with wins in the nine swimming events contested on the evening.

The dual meet continues at noon on Saturday at McCann Natatorium in Milford, CT.

  • The Blue Devil 200 freestyle relay of Kelly StotlerGabby SpacianoShannon Welcome and Katie Czulewicz opened the meet with a win in a time of 1:38.59
  • Czulewicz followed that with a win in the 200 freestyle, in a time of 1:54.67, leading a sweep of the event
  • Welcome touched second in the race at 1:57.85, with Stotler third at 1:58.64
  • Megan Dunnigan, 59.80, and Nathalie Pena, 1:01.57 took the top two spots in the 100 backstroke
  • Cassidy Stotler won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:05.20, four seconds clear of the runner-up, while Abby Bacon placed third at 1:09.32
  • Gabi Wroblewski earned the win in the 200 butterfly, with a swim of 2:10.96, while Kaylin McMahon, 2:14.66, and Kyla Behrle, 2:15.44, finished third and fourth respectively
  • Kelly Stotler won the 50-freestyle with a 25.01, with Spaciano touching fourth at 25.69
  • Cassidy Stotler captured her second win of the evening in the 200 IM, touching at 2:07.41, leading the Blue Devils second 1-2-3 sweep of the meet
  • Morgan O’Hara was second at 2:13.22 and Wroblewski third with a swim of 2:14.44
  • Abbey Keane won the 1,650 in a time of 17:43.22, with Taylor Demarest placing third at 18:19.10 and Behrle fifth at 18:40.26
  • The 3-meter diving was extremely competitive, with the top three spots separated by just 1.12 points
  • Jewelle Maziarz was the Blue Devils top finisher, in third with 222.53, with Zoe Baker fourth at 214.50
  • Central capped the first night with a win in the 400-medley relay, with Dunnigan, Cassidy Stotler, Welcome and Czulewicz combining for a 3:58.06 effort
  • Pena, Bacon, Jillena Plowucha and O’Hara swam 4:14.73 to place third

The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team completed its two-day dual meet with Northeast Conference foe Sacred Heart, Saturday afternoon in Milford, CT. The Blue Devils set three pool records on their way to a 248-105 dual meet win.

The Blue Devils are at UConn Friday evening at 6:00pm, before hosting Rhode Island on Saturday, January 28 at 2:00pm. The meet versus URI will be Senior Day for CCSU.

  • The Blue Devils opened Saturday with a win in the 200-medley relay, as Kelly StotlerCassidy Stotler, Megan Dunnigan and Gabby Spaciano touched at 1:49.98
  • The CCSU B relay of Nathalie PenaMorgan O’HaraKyla Behrle and Jillena Plowucha finished third in a time of 1:56.39
  • Gabi Wroblewski, 4:38.97, out touched teammate Morgan O’Hara, 4:39.41, as the Blue Devils took the top-two spots in the 400 IM and were both under the McCann Natatorium record of 4:41.33
  • Kaylin McMahon placed fourth at 4:49.60 and Behrle had the fifth fastest time at 4:50.48
  • Katie Czulewicz earned her third individual win of the meet in the 100 freestyle, swimming 53.69, as CCSU secured the four fastest times in the event
  • Shannon Welcome was second in the 100 free, 54.19, followed by Spaciano, 54.64 and Kelly Stotler, 54.75
  • Dunnigan, 2:08.80, captured the 200 backstroke, with Pena placing second at 2:11.14
  • Jewelle Maziarz, 244.43, and Zoe Baker, 22.58, took the top two spots in the 1-meter diving
  • Cassidy Stotler captured the 100 butterfly, with a swim of 58.78, while Dunnigan placed second at 1:00.67
  • Czulewicz earned her fourth individual win by leading a 1-2-3 sweep of the 500 freestyle, swimming a 5:07.34, lowering the pool record by nearly a full second
  • Welcome was second in the 500 with a 5:13.25, while Abbey Keane touched third at 5:13.25
  • O’Hara earned the top spot in the 200 breaststroke, with a swim of 2:28.89
  • Czulewicz, Welcome, Kelly Stotler and Spaciano combined to win the 400 freestyle relay, capping off the meet, with a swim of 3:37.68, to set a pool record
  • The relay of Cassidy Stotler, Wroblewski, Keane and McMahon placed third at 3:48.11

MILFORD, Conn.  – On Saturday the Sacred Heart University and Central Connect State swimming & diving teams wrapped up their two-day meet. The Pioneers fell to the Blue Devils, 248- 105, at McCann Natatorium.

The Pioneers opened the day by placing second in the 200 medley relay. The team of Casey Barrett, Rose Nieto, Emma McCall and Kelly Bartnett hit the wall in at 1:51.86

SHU had two of the top three swimmers in the 200 yard breaststroke. Nieto was second at 2:31.74 while Ella Krikorian produced a season-best time of 2:32.52.

The one-meter diving saw three Pioneers in the top five. Oliva McNicholas was just edged out for second with a score of 219.38 Following up her winning three-meter performance on Friday, Lola Barrett took fourth.

A trio of swimmers finished third in their events. Emma Chambers touched in at 4:44.59 in the 400 individual medley. Barrett was a third-place finisher in the 200 backstroke while Ash Ayala touched in a 1:01.70 to take third in the 100 butterfly.

Sacred Heart is back at home next Saturday to take on St. Francis Brooklyn at 12:30 p.m.
