Following a meeting of WADA’s Compliance Review Committiee (CRC), the national anti-doping organizations of Brazil, Guatemala, and Azerbijan are in danger of being declared non-compliant, as they are currently not in compliance with the 2015 WADA code.
A statement from WADA confirmed that the countries’ organizations have outstanding issues that need to be resolved.
“Unless pending issues are resolved, the CRC will submit recommendations of declarations of non-compliance to the November Foundation Board”
Brazil, the host country of this summer’s 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, has been criticized by WADA for stopping drug testing programs the month before Rio, as they were no anti-doping tests carried out from July 1st to 24th.
Brazil has cited the suspension of their doping control lab as a reason for halting the anti-doping tests during that period. The suspension on the Brazilian Laboratory Doping Control (LBCD) was handed down by WADA in June due to technical errors in doping procedures. WADA wasn’t specific about their reasons for the suspension, but they described the situation as “pretty disturbing.”
In July, WADA announced that the lab would recieve its accreditation back before the start of the Games. SwimSwam earlier reported that the LBCD had to meet numerous requirements to satisfy the standards imposed by the International Standard Laboratories (ISL) in order to be released from the suspension.
