Swim fans and general sports enthusiast alike were blown away by the Cannes Film Festival award-winning video that was Under Armour’s Rule Yourself advertisement featuring Michael Phelps. His in-pool dedication, as well as his ferocious workouts outside of the pool were on full display, as Phelps trained for what he said would be his 5th and final Olympic Games appearance. The haunting UA piece had The Kills’ ‘The Last Goodbye’ symbolically playing in the background, increasing the emotion factor of the mini-film.

Flash forward to another Phelpsian vignette that was released by one of his sponsors, Krave.  Phelps’ other-worldly physique and work ethic are still at the forefront of the video, but this time we get to hear the most decorated Olympian of all time speaking in his own voice, albeit in the past tense.

“Despite all that I have accomplished, there is still more I want to achieve,” says the 23-time Olympic gold medalist.

Phelps says, “My goal isn’t over yet,” most likely referring to his own mission to continue to grow the sport of swimming.

We eagerly wait for the next phase of Phelps’ career to unfold.

A Goal could be called ” Purpose ” . feels more appropriate . I personally fulfilled many purposes but not many goals and it feels great

Given he’s a recovering alcoholic, I shudder when I read these things about his new goals beyond family and stability, when the adrenaline rushes are gone. The freakish physical and mental gifts that made him swim fast are not going to be that helpful in his next enterprises. I wish him well. I think his mom actually knows something about what keeps him safe when she says she hopes he keeps swimming for Tokyo.

He can’t swim forever. At some point he needs to figure out what to do without swimming. Even Michael Phelps can’t swim at the Olympic level when he’s 60. It’s troubling if Debbie actually wants him to continue swimming. I wish him well too.

Yes. That’s a huge missing point in his swimming career. It prevents him from sleeping well. And everybody around him tells him 24/7 he still has to win another gold in SCM. Yes, for sure. Who really cares about SCM apart from Hosszu and her banker?

The next phase of MP in swimming must be the building of a big great swimming pool called “MP aquatic center” to host future LCM world championships in USA. Time for the greatest swimming nation to finally host that meet. And MP must lobby and work for that project.

His son will be inspired by the effort and recieve the fruits of MP labor beyond anything you peasants can comprehend. MP’s entire lineage is forever golden because of what he’s achieved in his life and what is to come.

And that includes us fans/ supporters/ believers not just his actual family. I am better because of Michael Phelps and nobody can take that away from me.
