The 2025 Spring Speedo Sectionals continued yesterday in Boise. This penultimate finals session featured four individual events: the 200 backstroke, 500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 butterfly. The 800 freestyle relay was also contested for both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
17-year-old Sophia Segerson earned her first win of the weekend with a time of 1:56.33 in the girls’ 200 back. The Bellevue Club swimmer split 27.56, 29.55, 29.77, and 29.45 en route to the win, finishing just 0.86 seconds off her fastest-ever swim. She will join Bellevue teammate Sophia Sunwoo, as well as some others such as Delaney Herr, Savannah Skow, and Sydney Willson, in the Princeton class of 2029.
Cal commit Alexa McDevitt, who also represents Bellevue Club, picked up two wins on the day. She first touched in 4:46.60 to win the 500 free, before winning the 100 breast about 40 minutes later in a time of 1:02.62. Both of her swims were new lifetime bests, as she shaved 2.93 seconds off her previous 500 freestyle best and 0.04 seconds off her 100 breaststroke mark. Heading into the final day of the meet, McDevitt has already won five individual events. She claimed victory in the 200 breast (2:12.68) on day one before doubling up with two more wins on Saturday. Those wins came in the form of the 200 free (1:47.34) and 400 IM (4:15.25).
The only other individual event of the day, the 100 fly, was claimed by 17-year-old Claire Watson. Another Bellevue Club representative, Watson touched the wall in 52.83, the only swimmer to go under 53 seconds. With Watson’s win, Bellevue completed a Saturday sweep of the girls’ individual events. Furthermore, she chopped 0.07 off her previous lifetime standard of 52.90. She took the race out strong in 24.65 before charging home in 28.18.
In the 800 free relay, Bend Swim Club’s foursome of Emma Bronson (1:53.82), Peyton England (1:55.02), Adeline Bennett (1:56.12), and Madelaine Thornton (1:48.86) hit the wall in 7:33.82. They cleared the rest of the field by over five seconds.
On the boys’ side, Texas commit Campbell McKean continued to rack up more wins. The 18-year-old Bend swimmer torched the 100 breast field, clocking a time of 51.28 to win by nearly four seconds. He smashed his previous best of 51.72 and moved from 7th to 3rd in the 17-18 NAG rankings. He bumped Louisville freshman Jake Eccleston out of the top five and leapfrogged well-known names such as Kevin Cordes, Noah Nichols, and Max McHugh.

McKean later won the 100 fly with another personal best of 46.46, edging out his previous mark of 46.52. He also split 1:33.91 on Bend Swim Club’s winning 800 free relay, with Holden Short (1:43.16), Brecken Egeland (1:42.08), and Landon Egeland (1:39.08) swimming the other three legs.
17-year-old Aiden Hammer of the King Aquatic Club claimed the boys’ 200 backstroke win, finishing with a time of 1:46.02, just under his previous personal best of 1:46.41. He split 25.67/27.15/26.70/26.50, demonstrating a clear descending approach to his new lifetime best.
Hammer originally committed to Cal in October, but switched his commitment to Texas last month. He also announced that he would be reclassifying to the graduating class of 2025, rather than 2026, and that he will be attending classes and competing in the fall.
22-year-old Quinton Cynor put his hand on the wall 1st in the 500 free, notching a final time of 4:21.90. That was just over two seconds shy of his best, 4:19.55 from the TYR Colorado Mesa Invitational. The 500 marked his third win of the weekend, adding to his victories in the 200 free (1:35.06) and 200 fly (1:45.21).
