VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior Maddie Hoover won three individual events and swam on a first-place relay, highlighting Binghamton’s sweep over Canisius in a swimming & diving meet on Saturday afternoon at the Saunders Aquatic Center. The Bearcat women (2-2) recorded a 225-58 triumph while the men were victorious by a 207-87 margin.
Hoover, who now has a team-best 10 individual wins so far this season, captured the 50 free (24.91), the 200 free (1:56.44) and the 500 free (5:15.72). She was also part of the first-place 200 free relay team that included freshman Ava Olsian, sophomore Maria Pignatelli and senior Molly Greeley.
Double winners on the women’s side included Juliette Phillips, who won the 100 IM (1:35.64) and the 200 IM (2:12.31), sophomore Olivia Philbrick, who took top honors on the 100 back (58.44) and the 200 back (2:09.37), freshman Haley Nowak, who was first in the 100 fly (58.38) and 200 fly (2:09.84) and sophomore Elizabeth Tirado, who swept the one- and three-meter diving events with scores of 239.48 and 250.13 respectively.
Other winners on the women’s side included Greeley in the 100 free (54.00), senior Courtney Moane in the 100 breast (1:06.07) and junior Lauren Kuzma in the 200 breast (2:23.00).
Philbrick, Moane, Nowak and Greeley also were part of the first-place 200 medley relay team that clocked a winning team of 1:47.36.
On the men’s side, freshman Harrison Lambert, junior Elijah Lanfear and senior Jake Vecchio were all double winners. Lambert won the 200 free (1:46.14) and the 500 free (4:46.48) while Lanfear bagged the 50 free (21.07) and the 100 free (46.77). Vecchio, meanwhile, won the 100 fly (51.54) and the 200 fly (1:55.34).
Other winners on the men’s side included senior Eric Kroon in the 100 breast (59.13), freshman Dylan Norby in the three-meter diving event (275.40), sophomore David Marshall in the one-meter diving competition (252.40) and senior Henry Shemet in the 200 IM (1:46.41).
Lanfear, Kroon and Shemet joined freshman Cullin Cole to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.62. Cole also swam on the first-place 200 free relay team that included seniors Mark Crocker, Liam Murphy and Sandon Karinsky.
Up next for Binghamton is the Brown Invitational, which will be held Nov. 17-19.

Freshman Marin de Villard and sophomore Sam Vidal combined for three first-place finishes on Saturday, but it was not enough, as Canisius fell to Binghamton in collegiate swimming and diving action in Vestal, N.Y.
The Bearcats defeated the Golden Griffins on both the men’s and women’s sides, scoring a 207-87 win in the men’s event and a 225-58 victory in the women’s competition.
De Villard continued to dominate the pool, picking up wins in the 100 back (51.34) and 200 back (1:53.67), while missing the top of the podium in an individual event for the first time this season with a second-place finish in the 200 IM (1:59.13).
Vidal was the first to touch the wall in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.09) and placed second in the 100 breaststroke (59.17).
Senior Jordan O’Connor also earned a pair of podium finishes, earning a second-place finish in the 100 and third place in the 100 free, with times of 1:00.28 and 54.66, respectively.
Sophomore Mandy Hill placed second in the 50 free with a time 25.53, and she also finished in second place in the 200 freestyle relay, alongside her team of O’Connor, Hannah Brainard and Andi Mackey.

Canisius will return to the pool for the Magnus Invite Nov. 16-18 in Cleveland, Ohio. This will be the first of two meetings with Cleveland State this season.
