It was seventh heaven for Bellevue at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s 3A boys state meet last month.

Bellevue won its seventh state title in school history and first since 2016, prevailing despite only winning one event, the 200 medley relay. 3A includes the middle-sized schools in Washington when it comes to enrollment classification.

The team of Alex Kang, Christian Wong, Bob Frazer and Aidan Kim won that event in a time of 1:33.96.

From there, Bellevue relied on 10 additional top-8 finishes to stack up a meet-best 276 points, which was 46 ahead of runner-up Shorecrest.

Frazer, a senior, finished second in the 200 freestyle and Wong, a junior, finished second in the 100 breaststroke to comprise the best individual finishes for Bellevue.

Wong finished just 12 one-hundredths behind winner Shea Skarda, a senior from O’Dea who has signed with Texas Christian and won with a time of 54.72.

The individual champions were a blend of seniors who went out in style and freshmen who made an immediate impact at the state meet.

Gig Harbor senior Aiden Hammer, a senior who has signed with Texas, won the 200 free in a personal-best time of 1:35.95 and the 500 free in a time of 4:19.95. He won both events as a sophomore also.

Capital senior Andrew Coombs won two events, both with personal-best times. He won the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:46.83, which was 2.85 seconds better than his previous best, and the 100 free in a time of 44.37.

The other multiple event winner was Lakeside freshman Charlie Cancelmo, who won the 100 butterfly in a personal-best time of 47.94 and the 100 backstroke in a time of 49.89.

Snoomish senior Torsten Hokanson won the 50 free in a personal-best time of 20.40, while Mercer Island freshman Connor Carson won diving with 428.85 points.

Snohomish won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays behind the quartet of Owen Collins, Rysen Tuomisto, Connor Colloton and Hokanson in each event.

The foursome clocked a time of 1:24.19 in the 200 free relay and a time of 3:05.99 in the 400 free relay.
