Ball State Women’s Swim & Dive Signs Three Newcomers For Fall

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women’s swim and dive program has signed three new participants to the 2016 class with National Letters of Intent, including Liz Madison (Normal, Ill./University), Courtney McKeen (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South), and Maryn Meldrum (Greenville, Ind./Floyd Central) according to head coach Kristy Castillo.

All signees have completed their senior seasons and are to join the Cardinals for the 2015-16 season.

Madison enters Ball State with a 3.46 GPA and four letters from University High School. Swimming under head coach Ryan Burroughs, Madison became the state champion in the 400 IM in 2015 and posted school records in the 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay, 400 freestyle relay and the 100 backstroke. Having qualified for state all four years, Madison finished a career-best of 13th place at state in the 200 IM. Madison and the University High team earned the sectional champion title for both the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, while she earned the team MVP in 2015. Madison was also the Illinois Senior State Champion with the Redbird Swim Club in 7-title competition.

McKeen enters Ball State after being a four-year letter winning diver at Bloomington High School South. McKeen was named First Team All-Conference in the Indiana Conference four consecutive seasons as well as being the school’s 6-dive record holder. In addition to being a four-time conference champion, sectional champion and state qualifier, McKeen has qualified for Nationals in her age group six times. With a highest placing of ninth at the state championships, McKeen served at the team captain and was awarded the Ruth Hidore Women’s Athlete Award. Courtney’s sister Chelsea was a diver for Indiana University.

Meldrum is a four-year letter winner under head coach Joe Perkins at Floyd Central High School. She specializes in the breaststroke and butterfly, posting times in the 100 and 200 breast, 100 and 200 fly, in addition to competing in the 50 free and 200 IM all in her senior year. Meldrum has established school records in the 100 fly, 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. She has also been a state qualifier all four years at Floyd Central, in which she earned the 100 breast sectional champion title for three consecutive years. Meldrum was named honorable mention in the Hoosier Hills Conference her freshman year, prior to earning All-Conference the following three seasons and served as her team captain her senior year. To round out the 2015 season, Meldrum finished in the top 16 in four individual events and earned her fourth News and Tribune All-Area Swim Team award.
