Ball State Diver Arrested, Charged With Burglarly & Strangulation

A Ball State University diver was arrested and charged with counts of burglary and strangulation with probable cause on May 3.

Madison Hischer, a first-year diver on the Ball State women’s team, broke into her ex-boyfriend’s home three days earlier in Muncie, Ind., assaulting sophomore teammate Ashleigh Provan, according to Ball State Daily.

According to an affidavit filed by Munice Police Department (MPD) officer Jami Brown with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Hischer entered the home through her ex-boyfriend’s unlocked bedroom window after attempting to enter through the front door. When Hischer attempted to enter through the front door, using the keypad, her ex-boyfriend held the door shut.

Once inside, Hischer ran at Provan, pushed her against the wall and hit her in the back of the head. Hischer then proceeded to grab Provan by the throat, an attack that was visible when Provan was questioned by MPD the following day.

Hischer was pulled off Provan by her ex-boyfriend and forcibly removed from his home. When he was questioned on May 3, he had visible bruises on his right hand and his right inner arm, obtained from the struggle at his front door to keep Hischer out of the house.

Shortly before the incident, Hischer walked into her ex-boyfriend’s home when the front door was unlocked and asked to use the bathroom. He obliged but told her she needed to leave after, which she did.

Hischer agreed to questioning without an attorney present shortly after her arrest, admitting to the allegations.

She said she was upset that her ex-boyfriend had moved on after they had only been broken up for a few weeks. She said she knew she would be able to enter through the bedroom window because it doesn’t shut properly.

Hischer said she was upset her ex-boyfriend had moved on after only being broken up for a few weeks, prompting the behavior. She said she knew she would be able to enter through his bedroom window because it didn’t shut properly.

Hischer was released on bail shortly after 8 p.m. on May 3.

Ball State Athletics told SwimSwam they had no updates on Hischer’s status with the team. Hischer did enter the NCAA Transfer Portal on May 10. That is after the deadline to transfer for next fall, though the date in the portal doesn’t always reflect the date when an athlete initiated the process.

A native of Fargo, N.D., Hischer placed 14th in the women’s 3-meter event and 17th on 1-meter at the 2023 Mid-American Championships.

Provan, also a diver, was eighth on 3-meter and 14th on 1-meter at last season’s MAC Championships.

Why have Ball State Swim and Dive or Ball State Athletics still not addressed this matter?

It has been addressed fully and the young lady is no longer at the university. People are removed from teams all the time for a wide variety of issues and I rarely see it publicly announced.

Lol those reasons are rarely “committing a felony.”

Why not just release the first sentence as a statement? Why come post it anonymously in the comments section and fight with people?

It is to my understanding something like this happened with the men’s IU swim team but head coach didn’t or refused to report it.

Let me clarify, I’m referring to the strangulation NOT the burglary. The point is the head coach didn’t or refused to report. WHY? I think he has a “boys will be boys mentality” and that it was one of his top swimmers did the violation. Way to look out for the entire team coach!

It appears that you are missing my point. A violet attack happened and the head coach at IU didn’t protect all his athletes because he chose not to report. Does it really make a difference it’s the women’s team or men’s team? It happened!

Well, at least she’s honest…

Really sad to see that Ball State Athletics hasn’t publicly removed her from the team.

I understand a university wanting to take their time with an active investigation going on and not do anything that can make the situation worse.

But she also entered the transfer portal last week, so…
