Anton Ipsen Moves to #9 All-Time with 14:24 to Win 1650 Free

2018 MEN’S NCAA SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Through the front half of tonight’s 1650 free, Michigan’s Felix Auboeck and NC State’s Anton Ipsen were in the hunt as Ipsen held a slight lead. Ipsen took off after the 1000-yard mark, however, pulling ahead steadily throughout the closing 650 to win by body lengths in 14:24.43.

Splits:

  • 500 Split- 4:21.94
  • 1000 Split- 8:44.73
  • Final Time- 14:24.43

That was a lifetime best by Ipsen, blowing away his former best 14:31.21 from the 2018 ACC Championships. It also earned him his first ever individual NCAA title.

Hey Lauren, love your writing, just a suggestion, you may want to alter your first paragraph. Anton Ipson lead from start to finish, there were maybe three 50s in the middle of the race where Auboeck led by one tenth of a second but Anton went out fast, they stayed even for several hundreds and then Ipsen dropped the hammer.
