Air Force’s Barnosky named WAC Swimmer of the Week

DENVER – Air Force Academy’s Michael Barnosky and CSU Bakersfield’s Brayden Greenwald have been named Western Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Jan. 18-24.

Barnosky, a senior from Cedaredge, CO (Cedaredge HS) won both the 100 and 200 breast stroke against Harvard and UNLV to help lead Air Force to a win over Harvard. He also swam on the 200 medley relay team that won with a time of 1:28.85.

Greenwald, a sophomore from Henderson, Nev. (Coronado HS) continued a strong season with a pair of wins on Saturday. Greenwald smashed his personal best on the 1-meter board with a score of 336.10, resetting the CSUB all-time record in the event. His mark was also good enough to move the sophomore into second this season in the WAC. Greenwald also won the 3-meter board with the second-best mark of his career, 301.80. He remains fifth all-time for the ‘Runners on the 3-meter.

Other swimmer nominees: CSU Bakersfield’s Lovre Soric posted impressive times while earning two individual wins on Saturday. Soric posted the fastest time of his career and the fastest time for the ‘Runners this season in the 500 free (4:37.80). With the win, Soric ranked himself in the Top 15 in the WAC in his first go at the event this season. The Croatian went on to win the 200 IM (1:54.28) and finish second in the 100 back (52.33). Soric also led the ‘Runner men’s 400 medley relay team to its fastest dual meet time of the season (3:28.02).

Michael Barnosky is from Cedaredge, Colorado and swam for Montrose High School and the Montrose Marlins. Not from Idaho. We PROUDLY claim him here on the Western Slope of Colorado!
