The Indiana Swimfest took place from July 11 to July 14 at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The state of Indiana has long been renowned for its ability to produce top-tier swimming talent, having placed 6 swimmers on the US Olympic team, more than any other state.
This legacy continues with young age group talents like 11-year-old Kate Allen and 14-year-old Ellie Clarke.
Allen won the 50/100/200/400 freestyle and 200 IM in the 11-12 age group with times of 28.10, 1:01.27, 2:11.99, 4:38.22, and 2:26.83, respectively. She holds the top spot nationally this year among all 11-year-olds in these events.
Clarke’s meet was highlighted by her new personal best in the 100 backstroke. She posted a new best time of 1:01.91 which marks her first time under 1:02 and ranks her third in the country this year among 13-14 year olds.
Clarke recently competed at the US Olympic trials in the 200 backstroke and 400 IM.
Both Allen and Clarke represent Carmel Swim Club, the same club that produced US Paris Olympians, Aaron Shackell, Alex Shackell, and Drew Kibler.
17-year-old Julie Mishler won the 50 freestyle and 200 backstroke. She posted a new best time in the 200 backstroke swimming a 2:16.82. She dropped over 2 seconds from her previous best time of 2:19.42.
Her best time in the 50 freestyle comes from a Time Trial at the US Olympic Trials with a time of 25.06. She also competed in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke at the Trials.
Mishler is committed to swim at the University of Louisville in the fall of 2025.
On the men’s side, Andrew Shackell, the twin of Alex Shackell and younger brother of Aaron posted a new best time en route to winning the 400 freestyle in a time of 3:58.52. This marks his first time under the 4:00 barrier.
Andrew competed at the US Olympic Trials in the 200 freestyle and is set to join his brother at the University of Texas in the fall of 2025.
14-year-old Peter Kovacs of Indiana Swim Club won the 50/100/200 freestyle, 100/200 backstroke, and 100 butterfly. He posted a 53.71 in the 100 freestyle, winning the event by over a second. He ranks number 8 in the country this year among 13-14 year olds in the event.
12-year-old Landon Williams’s meet was highlighted by his first-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.08. This time ranks number 2 in the country this year among 11-12 year olds.
