2023 U.S. Summer Junior Nationals: Day 3 Prelims Live Recap

2023 Summer Junior National Championships

Day 3

We’ve come to Day 3 of Summer Junior Nationals, where we’ll have heats of 400 free, 100 fly, and 200 back. Long Island Aquatic Club’s Cavan Gormsen is top seed in the 400 free (4:08.12) but Carmel Swim Club’s Lynsey Bowen, who won the 800 free on Monday, will be looking for a distance sweep. Similarly, in the boys’ meet, The Swim Team’s Isaac Fleig will hope to upset top-seeded Aaron Shackell of Carmel (3:49.19), after having won the 1500 free on Monday. Sean Green of LIAC could be a spoiler, after his 400 IM victory on Tuesday.

In the 100 fly, Carmel’s Alex Shackell (57.59) comes in with the top seed time, a full second faster than Bailey Hartman from Crow Canyon. LIAC’s Tess Howley, who won the 200 fly on Monday, is also a threat. Howley is the #2 seed in the 200 back, behind Scottsdale Aquatic Club’s Ella Cosgrove (2:10.10). SwimMAC Carolina’s Caleb Maldari (1:57.86) leads the entrants in the boys’ 200 back.
