Swimming in lane 1 tonight, Williamson blasted a 1:31.37, crushing the time he had set just 48 hours prior and 7 races earlier.
Charlie Bufton owned a best 400 IM time of 4:00.67 from March that he brought all the way down to 3:54.01 in prelims before blazing a 3:51.01 in the final.
Williamson is only a high school junior, but he’s already faster than the current Virginia school record (1:32.45) and ACC Championships record (1:32.23).
Friday night will feature finals of the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, and 100 back, and timed finals of the 200 free relay.

Gregg Enoch from Carmel Swim Club won the East’s 500 free in 4:14.36, nearly 2 seconds faster than the West’s winner, Cooper Lucas.
Maximus Williamson now owns the Winter Juniors meet record as well as the U.S. boys’ 17-18 NAG record previously set by David Nolan (1:41.39) in 2011.
Most of Heilman’s improvement came on the opening fly leg of the 200 IM, where he split half a second faster (21.65) than his old NAG record from last year.
The much-anticipated matchup between Leah Hayes and Teagan O’Dell in the 200 IM will take place on Thursday night at Winter Juniors – West.
