Mackenzie Carter from Delaware, Ohio, has announced her intention to remain in-state to swim at the University of Toledo beginning in the 2023-24 school year.
“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Toledo. It’s been a dream of mine to swim at the Division 1 level and I wouldn’t have been able to get here without my family, friends, and coaches. I can’t wait to join such an amazing team. Go Rockets 🚀”
Carter attends Rutherford B. Hayes High School, where she will be a senior next fall. She was an individual finalist in the 50 free (15th) and she led off the Hayes 200 medley relay that came in 16th place at the 2022 Ohio High School Division 1 State Championships last February.
Carter swims club with Greater Columbus Swim Team of Ohio. She is a Futures qualifier in the 50 free and 100 back. While her best 50/100 free times come from her freshman year high school season, she notched lifetime bests in the 200 free and 100 back at the Tim Myers Senior Meet last November, and in the 200 back at the MAKO Senior Invitational in March.

Carter’s best times would have placed her among Toledo’s top-5 last season in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, and 200 back. She will overlap two years with backstrokers Lucie Morris (57.52) and Madeline Blakely (57.70/2:06.56) and will arrive just after this year’s top sprinters (Kennedy Lovell and Lauren Kilgore) graduate. She will join a freestyle training group with Morris (23.40) and Sydney Conrad (23.83).
