Alex McMahon (2021) Verbally Commits to Arizona Wildcats

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

17-year-old Alex McMahon, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Arizona’s class of 2025. McMahon is a junior at Heritage High School. He swims year-round with ACES Swim Club where his older brother Christopher McMahon coaches the Senior Elite group with Tom Byorick.

Although his junior year high school season was canceled this spring, McMahon placed 4th in the 200 free (1:43.84, or 1:42.64 altitude-adjusted) and 7th in the 100 fly (50.58, or 50.48 altitude-adjusted) as a sophomore at the 2019 CHSAA 5A State Swimming and Diving Championships. He earned PBs in the SCY 100/500 free, 100/200 fly and 200 IM and the LCM 200 free (1:54.02) and 100 fly (55.76) in December at Winter Juniors West where he was a finalist in the 100 fly.

Top SCY times:

  • 100 fly – 48.56
  • 200 fly – 1:50.23
  • 200 IM – 1:50.30
  • 100 free – 45.75
  • 200 free – 1:43.84
  • 500 free – 4:30.72

The University of Arizona men’s team beat Stanford by 4.5 points to finish second to Cal at the 2020 Pac-12 Men’s Championships. The Wildcats placed three in the A final of the 200 fly, including Brooks Taner, with whom McMahon will overlap two years. He will also train with sophomores Ty Coen, Aldan Johnston, and Tai Combs, and freshman Wyatt Matson. McMahon would have swum in the non-scoring C finals of the 100/200 fly.
