Day 2 of the 2019 Swedish Short Course Championships saw additional athletes join the roster for this year’s European Short Course Championships set for December 4th-8th in Glasgow, Scotland.
Among them was Magdalena Kuras in the women’s 100m IM, leading a foursome of finishers who all dipped under the qualifying time for Glasgow. Kuras hit the wall in a winning effort of 1:00.39, followed by 15-year-old qualifier Emelie Fast who touched in 1:01.32.
Alma Thormalm was next on the podium in 1:01.42, while Klara Thormalm touched in 1:01.46 for 4th place.
As for Kuras, her career-best is represented by the 59.31 notched way back in 2015.
The men’s 200m IM was also on tonight’s agenda, although national record holder Simon Sjodin fell just .01 outside of Glasgow qualification. The 33-year-old checked in with a time tonight of 1:55.86, sitting painstakingly behind the 1:55.85 needed for SC Euros.
Yesterday’s 100m fly victor, Sara Junevik was back at her winning ways, clinching the 50m fly gold in a time of 26.05. That easily cleared the 26.30 needed for Glasgow.
Johannes Skagius followed suit in the men’s 100m breast, beating national record holder Erik Persson who qualified in the 200m breast last night. This time around in the shorter distance, Skagius clocked 58.46 to Persson’s 58.67, with only the former’s dipping under the 58.58 qualification time.
