He swam really solid at Setti Colli despite having a cold.

Come on now. You left out the .9. He was shooting for a 52.9. Lol

I mean I think that’s pretty well implied.

Team Usa needs a 58.5 breaststroker A LOT more than a 52.9 backstroker. I’m hoping he goes 59.0 or better next month and that pushes his focus over to breaststroke.

50 free, 100 breast, 200 IM

I genuinely think he can make the team on the 200 IM, but I would not want to be in his shoes turning into that last 50 and knowing Kalisz, DeVine and Litherland are coming out after me.

Seli’s an awesome swimmer, but he seems focussed on the 100s and 200s now. He’ll be right in the mix, but less likely to have the freight train last length of the 400 IM guys.

David Nolan is training again. He will be in the hunt for that 200 IM slot.

According to him, the 200 IM isn’t his target: he’s training to be a sprinter. https://swimswam.com/i-want-to-see-how-close-i-can-get-david-nolan-resurfaces-with-a-new-outlook/

It’s a deep field to be diving into for next year, but no harm in trying.

On a similar note, surely it’s worth him investing some time in putting together a 48.0 type 100 free? It’s arguably his best 50 and it’s a much better relay chance for next year.

I get he does things his own way and USRPT has worked incredibly well for him, but it clearly isn’t working for this discrete issue, which is stroke related rather than overall programme. Must be worth going to train with someone like Eddie for a couple of weeks to see if it helps sort the breathing.

I’d have to watch some video but I think Andrew’s 50 freestyle technique isn’t sustainable over a 100 and that *something* is preventing him from maintaining freestyle speed when he’s not going all out, no breath. Maybe the breathing itself is the culprit? It might cause him to drop his elbow on his pull or break his rhythm on his tempo, but it seems odd that he translates his 50 speed into strong 100s for all strokes but freestyle. This might also be why his last 50 in his IM is a struggle.

I think it’s a symmetry + head position + breathing issue. Those things can hide in a 50, but they come to get you a lot of times in 100 (especially LCM).
