New Mom Sarah Sjostrom Among 22-Strong Swedish European Championships Roster

The Swedish Swimming Federation has revealed its 22-strong roster set to represent the nation at the 2026 European Championships in Paris.

32-year-old new mom Sarah Sjostrom is among the list of ten women, impressively making the grade less than a year after giving birth to her first child, son Adrian. The six-time Olympic medalist was out of competition roughly 20 months, from August 2024 until April of this year.

Her first competition back was the Malmstem Swim Open Stockholm which took place in April, where the ace delivered a remarkable comeback 50m freestyle time of 24.36. That qualified her for Paris, giving Sjostrom a chance to add to her already incredible Long Course European Championships 28-medal haul.

Among those also named to the squad include Robin Hanson, Louise Hansson, Victor Johansson and Sara Junevik.

We have seen strong performances throughout the season. Several have previously shown that they can compete at the highest international level, while a new generation is now taking their place in the senior context. This gives us both edge and breadth ahead of the championship in Paris, says national team captain Martina Aronsson.

Sans Sjostrom, Sweden placed 9th in the pool swimming medal table at the 2024 edition of the European Championships, collecting five pieces of hardware, including two gold and three bronze medals. Those who landed on the podium included Erik Persson (gold, 200m breast), Olivia Klint Ipsa (bronze, 50m breast; bronze, 100m breast) and Junevik (gold, 50m fly; bronze, 100m fly).

I haven’t seen an announcement, but he hasn’t raced since 2025 NCAAs and he deleted his Instagram so my guess is yes.
