Council Bluffs, Iowa’s Jackson Allmon has announced his intention to swim for the University of Iowa beginning in the 2018-19 season.
“I chose Iowa because on my visit the swimmers made me feel like I was already part of the team. I believe in Coach Long and what his coaching staff is trying to achieve in the BIG 10 and beyond. Along with the team, Iowa has world class facilities and a great classroom environment. GO HAWKS!”
A two-time USA Swimming All-American, Allmon is a senior at Saint Albert High School in Council Bluffs. Because his school is so small, Allmon has swum via a cooperation agreement with Abraham Lincoln High School and Thomas Jefferson High School for his first three years of high school. He explained to SwimSwam that this year “Saint Albert decided to sign with Lewis Central High School and co-op with them. So [now] I am swimming high school with LC and my [Council Bluffs Swim Club] coach Bruce Schomburg.”
At the 2017 IHSAA State Meet, Allmon came in second in the 500 free and third in the 200 free. In prelims, he also swam a 46.47 leadoff leg on the 400 free relay and anchored the 200 free relay in 21.82. He wrapped up his summer long-course season winning the 100 free and 200 free, and was runner-up in the 400 free, at Region VIII Summer Sectionals at Lincoln NE Woods Pool. ince the beginning of his junior year in high school, Allmon has improved his lifetime bests in the SCY 50/100/200/500/1000/1650 free and 100/200 fly, and in the 50/100/200/400 free, 200 breast and 100 fly. His best SCY times include:
- 100 free – 46.47
- 200 free – 1:39.99
- 500 free – 4:33.31
- 1000 free – 9:31.28
- 200 fly – 1:51.58
- 100 fly – 50.88
Very excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at the University of Iowa! GO HAWKS!! pic.twitter.com/6TL4DSiQr8

Regarding Bob’s comments about the Iowa program, as Maya Angelou said, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.” So who is Marc Long and what is the Iowa swim program?
First, it is not Glenn Patton’s perenially top-20 nationally ranked, top-3 Big Ten ranked, program of the 80s and 90s. It is a program that occasionally qualifies a swimmer or two for NCAAs, and nearly always finishes towards the bottom of the Big Ten. Believe it, accept it, that is the current brand.
Second, it is not a program that regularly recruits top-level national or international talent. They get lots of Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois kids, and a few others from time to time.… Read more »
Bob, why write “horse pucky” about the Hawkeyes??? Negative recruiting at worst…reminds me of someone in Bloomington in the late 70’s and early 80’s
Great to see in state kids at Iowa. You will do great things at that program!
Yes you will! It’s Great To Be A Hawkeye!!

are those yards times? or long course
A comment thread of a kid from middle america and his commitment to a school is not a place to get your answers. 1. You didn’t say what course these are from, SCY, SCM, LCM. 2. Reaching out to actual people versus a thread is a good start, try any university with a swim team. That can be found on NCAA.org or just look to the schools you know are good. They are typically in the headlines of this website. 3. There is no nation wide deadline, but as of now it’s not too late.
Are those LCM or SCM times? You can. Division I has a wide range of speed – even in yards (where times are generally lower than meters), the slowest 100 fly season-best time recorded in an official meet was 1:05.39. He probably wasn’t a butterflier…but that should give you some perspective on the wide range of times in D1 swimming.
Times are scm and i am male.I miss my main lcm meet this summer due to shoulder injury but i have time to improve till next spring when i am finishing high school.

I miss nationals to be more precise…I am from Slovenia.
I am starting recruiting proces next year just want to know where i am right now…?
First, congratulations to this young man. But I have to ask, what is the appeal for that program? It doesn’t seem like they have improved in the last 10 years, swimmers get slower for the most part and don’t’ score at NCAA’s even though they have the talent, and the rumors coming out about their men’s team fiasco last season is insane. I wish there was a different message board to talk about this program, as everyone should be happy for this young man, but this has to be one of the biggest waste of a facility in the country. Sorry so negative, trying to understand.
Dang, Bob.. “keeping 100”, eh?
Keeping it*.. I was never very cool…
I saw that this had 3 comments & immediately knew one of them would be negative.
Just to be clear the MW folks, the above “Bob” is not me, always great to hear about a MW kid going to power 5 school. Goodluck Jackson and congrats!
Personally, I’ve never felt more passion and excitement than when i’m on campus and the pool deck at The University of Iowa! Plus, the majority of Iowa swimmers and divers have had time drops and success! I don’t understand all the negativity!
It’s a great team to be a part of!! Go Hawks! 🙂
Don’t worry, Marc will suck the passion out of you within 4 years.
First of all, this program is exceeding and only getting better, and these great recruits are only going to improve the program, they will get top 10 easy money and win in the next few years
Lol you are trolling right? Top ten in the big10 has become hard for this team. The women’s team has been stagnant at the 7-11 spots since Marc took over and then men have barely been better. Finishing 5 & 6 in the first part of the decade. Bob is not wrong, the pool is beautiful and the associate head coaches are average at best. Marc and Frannie are just good at milking the cash cow and that’s all the A.D. cares about.
Just wondering what are these insane rumors??
The sexual assault within the team or Marc Long being in the board of regents wallet?
