The Lakeside SeaHawks Swim Team from Louisville, Kentucky will be inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame next month. The storied swim club will represent one of over 250 venues composing the 2016 induction class, which also includes famed horse tracks Keeneland and Churchill Downs.

Formed in the unique quarry pool back in 1928, the SeaHawks have produced a healthy stock of notable athletes who went on to compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials, Olympic Games, Pan American Games, and within the NCAA system. Mary T. Meagher, Tori Trees, Bruce Dorman, and Lisa Buese, just to name a few, at one time called Lakeside their home club.

In addition to being credited with 40 swimmers having qualified at the Sectional and Senior National Level, in 2000, the Lakeside Men captured the squad’s first Junior National Championship. Then in 2005, the SeaHawks won their 35th consecutive indoor State Championships and 31st consecutive outdoor State Championship.

Reads the club’s social media accounts, “We are honored to have played a role in continuing to produce outstanding athletes and young people over the years and represent Lakeside in a “hall of fame” manner. After an outstanding past year for our Team, this honor just solidifies our program as the most successful youth athletic program in the region and possibly the country.

We could not be prouder of our Team and Lakeside, with the 3rd Place in the Gold Medal Rankings, 4th in Scholastic All-Americans, 13 current or past Lakeside swimmers headed to Olympic Trials and now to be named to the Athletic Hall of Fame – the Lakeside “family” has once again proven why it is the leader in competitive swimming and aquatic excellence!”

Official Announcement and Information from the Club:

Lakeside Swim Club is pleased to announce it will become a member of the 2016 Class of Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame. Lakeside joins over 250 inductees and will be the fifth entity to join the ranks of other venues, Keeneland, Churchill Downs, Valhalla, and Hillerich & Bradsbury. We are proud to be a part of the distinguished group. Hall of Famers with a Lakeside connection includes, but not limited to: Leah Stevens, 2015 Kentucky High School Athlete of the Year, Mary T. Meagher (2013), Marty O’Toole (2009) Dan Neal (2010), Will Wolford (2003), Otto Knop (1995), Dan Ulmer (2009), and Mike Berry (1992) as well as current Hall of Fame Directors, John Hubbuch and Karl Schmitt.
