Australian age group champion Charli Brown of Carlisle Swimming Club in Sydney will join Arizona State this coming season in their class of 2024.

So happy to announce my verbal commitment to Arizona State University. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and believed in me! Excited to be a Sun Devil.

Brown won the 400 IM at the 2019 Australian Age Group Championships for the 16-year-old division, where she was also second in the 200 IM, third in the 200 free and 400 free and fifth in the 100 free. At the 2019 World Junior Championships, Brown represented Team Australia in the 400 IM, where she went 4:51.01 in prelims to finish 11th overall.

Arizona State has had success with mid-distance/distance freestylers recently with impressive 2019-20 seasons from Emma Nordin, Cierra Runge and Erica Laning. They’ll lose Runge and 1:46/4:40 freestyler Kendall Dawson next season to eligibility, while Brown will get just one year of overlap with Nordin and Laning.

Brown should also figure in as a top contributor to ASU’s IM group, and could be a factor in their breaststroke group that loses All-American Silja Kansakoski.

Brown will join the Sun Devils this fall alongside Pilar McCann, Erin Milligan, Marte Lovberg and Elli Straume.

Carlile Swimming Club was named after Forbes Carlile (a Legend of the Sport) in the 1970’s, and not after the English town Carlisle.
