2014 U.S. Nationals Pick ‘Em: Day 1 Scores

With some excellent picks in the 100 freestyles and women’s 800, swimmama takes the lead after day one of our 2014 U.S. Nationals Pick ‘Em with 67 points.  Swimmama nailed the first, second, and third place finishers in the women’s 100 freestyle and women’s 800 freestyle, and also correctly picked both first place relays to gain the early edge.  Sprintswammer2012 is nipping at [presumably] her heels with 66 points.

Notes

A few notable things from day one:

  • Of our 402 entrants who filled out day one picks, 400 of them chose Katie Ledecky to win the women’s 800 freestyle.
  • 337 people correctly picked Cammile Adams to win the women’s 200 fly, while just 25 people selected men’s winner Tom Shields correctly.
  •  A whopping 386 people correctly chose Nathan Adrian to win the men’s 100 freestyle.

SCORING

Our scoring system is the same as it was for men’s and women’s NCAAs this spring, a slightly tweaked system from some of our previous Pick ‘Em Contests:

  • 1st – 4 points
  • 2nd – 4 points
  • 3rd – 3 points
  • 4th – 2 points
  • Correctly Picking “Other” in correct spot – 3 bonus points, plus earned points
  • Successfully predicting a swimmer in the top 4, but in the wrong spot – 1 bonus point

TIE-BREAKER

All ties will be broken by the following order:

  1. Who had the most 1st place picks correct
  2. Who had the most 2nd place picks correct
  3. Who had the most 3rd place picks correct
  4. Who had the most 4th place picks correct
  5. Who has the highest overall score (if tie is for a daily prize)
  6. Drawing of lots

I entered mine as well the day before nats started and had winners and I sure can’t find my name listed at all. Sent an email asking what happened but no reply as to what went wrong. Guess I’m not the only one. What a shame. Hope they can get things worked out. Great meet though!
