Just two weeks after breaking the national age group record in the girls 10-and-under 50y fly at Far Westerns, and three weeks after breaking the 10&U 50m back mark, Phoenix Swim Club’s Miriam Sheehan etched her name in the record books once again, taking down the 50m fly record.
Swimming in a timed finals 50m fly event at the Phoenix Spring Invitational on Friday evening, Sheehan came in with a seed time of 30.88. She dropped .45 to win by 5.5 seconds, and eclipsed Ella Eastin’s 2007 NAG of 30.56 by .13.
Although USA Swimming does not recognize 10-and-unders in its Top Ten age group lists, Sheehan finished the 2014-15 short course yards season with the nation’s top times in the 50 back, 100 back, 50 fly, and 100 fly.
M!!! What an amazing accomplishment!! The whole Foster family is so proud of you! Not only is it awesome to watch you swim, but it’s just as awesome to see the spirit in your heart behind the swim. We love you!!
Long course or short course?
Dane – long course.
Congrats to the Sheehan’s again. That now makes the household total Dad-1 to Daughter-3. Dad needs to step it up. Nice throw down by Miriam.
Speaking of Grace Cornelius and as a pupil in terms of swimming history, at least everything before 2000 🙂 , I needed to learn more about her because I see her name everywhere in the all-time lists with a lot of NAG records broken in the 80s.
I’ve found a story about her. Nice headline with “Amazing Grace”.

And a very interesting interview made in 1997.

Great find, Bobo
Congrats for another NAG record.
Useless stats but Grace Cornelius broke this 10 and under 50 fly NAG record in 1983 in 31.54. While in the same season a young Jenny Thompson swam 33.48.
Miriam Sheehan also won on Friday the 50 free in 29.29 and the 200 IM in 2.39.54.
