American National Team swimmer Ryan Murphy is best known for his exploits as a backstroker, but similar to many great swimmers (Cseh, Lochte, Phelps, etc.) he excelled in both the backstroke and butterfly races when he was younger.
On Saturday night at the Arizona LSC Age Group Championships on the campus of Arizona State University, 12-year old Seth Chun tied Murphy’s 11-12 National Age Group Record in the 200 meter fly, marking a 2:14.40.
Chun was formally swimming unattached at this meet, but he is currently training with Arizona Gold under the watch of Head Coach Jerry Olszewski.
In February he also broke the Arizona LSC Record in the 200 yard fly. See below for a representative swim of his stroke, technique, etc.

Excellent technique and execution. It takes a lot of discipline and guts to swim a 200 fly like this at age 12, or any age.
In other 200 fly news, Jack Conger just went a 1:58 at a local meet. If he decides to refine his fly at Texas things could get interesting.
I liked his stroke pattern. He was strong and steady and was very impressive. Of course he died a little in the last 20 meters but this only shows how much faster he will go.
Nicely done! Good to see some young guys stepping up. This article makes me wonder though, what could Ryan go in the 200 fly now? I bet he could break 2:00 if he tried.
