In between some big-time exhibition swims at the Arizona State – Arizona dual meet, Olympic champion Michael Phelps found time to chat with SwimSwam about his plans for a busy 2016.
Not only will Phelps attempt to qualify for his fifth Olympic Games, he’ll also make his first foray into fatherhood, as he and fiancée Nicole Johnson are expecting a baby boy in 2016.
You can check out the video interview above. In it, Phelps explains the couple’s plans for 2016, including how to balance the baby with the quest for yet another Olympic bid.
Phelps drew a huge crowd in Tempe, swimming in what he would call the last short course yards races of his career. Phelps has typically focused more on long course meters, and plans to retire for good after this summer’s Olympic Trials and Olympic Games.

I hope he and Nicole are able to work out a situation where he can still get the sleep and recovery time he needs out of the pool to be ready for Trials and the Games. Getting sleep is not easy during those early months with a baby!
Agreed Aileen! They both seems like they are close with their family, so I imagine they can count on their moms to help out till after the olympics are over cause at the same time it’s no really fair to expect Nicole to survive the first few weeks with a baby with no help! He does seem really excited to be a dad though, changing diapers and all!
Thats a cool concept
