POSITION SPECIFICS

 

The Director of Aquatics & Head Coach of Swimming is a dual-role leadership position responsible for both the management of all aquatics programming and facilities, and the strategic oversight of the university’s intercollegiate swimming program. This position requires a dynamic leader capable of balancing coaching excellence with operational and business acumen.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Head Coach – Swimming Program

 

  • Lead all aspects of the men’s and/or women’s intercollegiate swimming program, including:

 

  • Designing and implementing training sessions and practice schedules.

 

  • Assesses individuals’ abilities and skill level to determine appropriate team position

 

  • Analyzing student-athlete performance and developing individualized practice plans.

 

  • Assists players in reaching highest athletic potential through athletic training and leadership skills

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Director of Competitive Aquatics reports directly to the Executive Director of Competitive Aquatics. This position is responsible for the supervision, direction and coaching of all swim team programming at all branches with guidance from the executive director of competitive aquatics. This individual will have the direct coaching responsibility for multiple training groups at their assigned YMCA site branch, and shall support the Membership Coordinator, the Aquatics Director and other YMCA staff with the fulfillment of the Mission, Vision, and goals of the YMCA and the YMCA of Upper Palmetto RAYS Swim Team.
  • Ensure adherence of all YMCA Policies and Procedures by all Aquatic Center staff to include member/client assistance

Swim Program Supervision

  • Assists in providing vision, leadership, and direction to the competitive programs of the YMCA of Upper Palmetto RAYS Swim team within the parameters and philosophy of the YMCA
  • Supervise, manage, and develop the part-time assistant coaches of the YMCA of Upper Palmetto RAYS Swim team at designated site.
  • Maintain open communication with all YMCA Aquatics staff members; including but not limited to, Membership Coordinators, Aquatics Directors and lifeguards.
Direct Coaching Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices in accordance with program objectives, guidelines, and policies

    • Be the lead contact for all Rays meets entries and questions for meets. Will assist in preparation for and execution of all home meets

General Job Description

The correct candidate plays a pivotal role in connecting all of our team with the larger swim community of Marin. This position is for a lead group coach who will be on deck for 6-8 practices a week and 3 dryland practices a week. The ideal candidate is comfortable coaching in a weight room. 

Though coaching is the main focus of this position, staying connected with the swimmers and coaches at our other sites and also connecting with local rec teams and high schools in the community to recruit swimmers is pivotal to the position.

Major Responsibilities

Athlete Development

  • Structure a season plan to develop the whole athlete through seasonal objectives and measurables
  • Deliver high quality, engaging, and developmentally appropriate practices that align with North Bay mission statement and goals
  • Partner with the Head Coach and other Lead coaches to design and implement a framework that aligns with the clubs mission statement
  • Run 3 drylands each week (designed by our strength coach) and 6-8 swim practices between 1.5-2.5 hours each practice. The ideal candidate is comfortable with dryland and weight room movements
  • Meet with strength coach every 1-2 weeks to discuss dryland workouts design and planning
  • Host regular meetings with your group(s) that work to develop the whole athlete. Nutrition, meet prep, mindset, and other requirements of young athletes not covered in dryland or swimming

Community Connection & Growth

  • Connect with our other age group program coaches and swimmers at Tiburon Peninsula Club to ensure easy transitions for swimmers into new groups and create team cohesion
  • Outreach to local rec teams and high school teams to develop pathway for swimmers to transition to our team from the local rec swim leagues
  • Communicate with our swimmers and families training plans, practice goals, upcoming events, and all other information to best keep our families informed
