Reilly Shields of the Chicago Wolfpack Swim Club has committed to OSU for next fall. He finished 15th in the 200 free last season at the IHSA Championships representing St. Ignatius College Prep, missing out on a finals appearance by just a half of a second.

Shields’ Top Times

  • 50y free – 21.63
  • 100y free – 47.43
  • 200y free – 1:42.59
  • 500y free – 4:44.87
  • 50m free – 24.29
  • 100m free – 52.79
  • 200m free – 1:55.52

Shields really impressed this summer, earning Winter Juniors cuts in the 50 through 200 meter freestyle races. It looks as though he’s got his work cut out for him in short course; his LCM times this summer convert to 21.16 in the 50, 46.11 in the 100, and 1:41.18 in the 200.

Ohio State has a very good freestyle program, and they return B1G 200 free champion Josh Fleagle for his senior season. They just got a verbal from another Illinois sprinter, Andrew Loy, who goes 21.1, 46.1, and 1:39.6 in the freestyle, and it looks as though the Buckeyes will continue to develop some of the conference’s best freestylers.

Joining Shields and Loy in OSU’s class of 2020 is Hershey’s Jack Kushner.
