2016 Women’s NCAA Updated Team Score Predictions: Day 3 Finals

2016 WOMEN’S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Following the Friday morning preliminary sessions, Cal, Georgia, and Stanford look to be locked in a three-team battle for the NCAA team title.  With their DQ in last night’s 200 free relay, the Cardinal looked like they may be out of the mix, but a solid morning session and some big diving points from Gracia Leydon-Mahoney have put them right back in the thick of it.  Georgia was not as sharp as yesterday morning, but still gained 16.5 points on their seeds, and grabbed a couple of key 8th and 16th place finishes.  Cal, meanwhile, slipped another 9.5 points from their seeds this morning.

Overall, based on results from this morning (including 3m diving prelims) and psych sheets for tomorrow, Cal holds a 0.5-point edge over Stanford, with Georgia nipping at their heels.  Stay tuned throughout tonight and tomorrow; it’s going to be a barn-burner in Atlanta (no historical pun intended).

Missouri made the biggest move this morning behind great swims from their backstrokers and their 200 medley relay.  USC fell essentially across the board, dropping 39 points from their seeds.

The biggest movers on the session:

  • Trending up:
    • Missouri Tigers: +34 points
    • Georgia Bulldogs: +16.5
    • Minnesota Gophers: +15
    • Wisconsin Badgers: +12
    • Kansas Jayhawks: +11
    • Indiana Hoosiers: +11
  • Trending down:
    • USC Trojans: -39 points
    • NC State Wolfpack: -24
    • Virginia Cavaliers: -24
    • Texas A&M: -17.5
    • Texas Longhorns: -10
    • UNC Tar Heels: -10

Below is a full scoring update coming out of the Friday preliminary session, including 3m diving prelims.  We’ve also included each teams’ psych sheet scoring to better represent how each particular team is performing relative to their seeds.  The final column shows–if seedings hold tonight–what each team’s new projected final score would be.
