12-year-old Zoe Skirboll broke the National Age Group record in the 11-12 50 yard breaststroke Wednesday, going 29.18 out of prelims in Clearwater, Florida.
Skirboll is competing for Racer X Aquatics at the Dolfin Elite Showcase Classic in Clearwater. The meet runs from Wednesday to Saturday. Skirboll’s time qualified first in the 12-year-old division by 2.2 seconds and was also faster than the winning times in the 13-year-old (30.03) and 14-year-old (29.69) classes.
She breaks a National Age Group (NAG) record held by Olivia Anderson, who went 29.23 back in 2010. Skirboll was previously ranked #3 all-time in the age group with a 29.37 from last month.
The meet continues tonight, with Skirboll having another shot at lowering the NAG record. She’ll compete in finals of that 50 breaststroke. Skirboll also competed in prelims of the 50 free, going 23.77 for the win in the 12-year-old girls division. That’s only six tenths off a NAG record held by Amanda Weir since 1999. Skirboll now sits tied with Janet Hu for 17th all-time in the 11-12 age group, with another chance to move up tonight.
