York’s Arabella Butera Commits to Division 1 Campbell University

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Arabella Butera from the York YMCA has announced her commitment to swim and study at Division 1 Campbell University beginning in the 2022-2023 school-year.

I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to Campbell

University! Thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates

who have supported me along the way! I can’t wait to be a Campbell

Camel!”

Butera is a native of Red Lion, Pennsylvania and attends Red Lion High School. She represented Red Lion at the 2021 PIAA Girl’s 3A State Championships, where she finished 5th overall in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.99). At the 2021 Spring Cup in Richmond, Butera was a finalist in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, coming in 15th (1:16.96) and 18th (2:45.10), respectively.

Best Times SCY

  • 100 Breaststroke – 1:03.99
  • 200 Breaststroke – 2:19.68

As soon as she arrives on campus, Butera will be one of Campbell’s top breaststrokers. With her best time in the 100 breaststroke, Butera would have ranked 1st on Campbell’s roster last season, and she also would have ranked 2nd in the 200 breaststroke. During that season, the Campbell women were led by freshman Piper Burton, who finaled in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the 2021 CCSA Championships. Burton will overlap 2 years with Butera at Campbell.

At the 2021 CCSA Championships, Butera would have made the A-final in the 200 breast with her best time, and she would have been .04 outside of making the A-final in the 100 breaststroke. The Campbell women had no swimmers in the A-final of either event at the meet, although several swimmers appeared in the B-final. At the meet, Campbell ultimately finished 5th overall with a total of 996 points. Florida Gulf Coast and Liberty University tied for the team title with 1749 points.

With her commitment, Butera joins Abi Fortner in Campbell’s class of 2026.
