York YMCA Names John Nelson as New Head Coach

The York YMCA in York, Pennsylvania has announced John Nelson as the new head coach, taking over for Michael Brooks, who left to take over as the head coach at the North Carolina Aquatic Club at the end of this summer season.

Nelson has spent the last 3 years as a full-time assistant with the club, ensuring continuity through the club after 10 years under the leadership of Brooks.

Before coming to York, Nelson was the head coach of the Charlottesville YMCA Aquatic Club.

Prior stops:

  • Head coach of the Heidelber Sea Lions Swim Team in Heidelberg, Germany
  • Head Age Group Coach for the Virginia Gators

The York YMCA is one of the best programs in the Northeastern United States, that has produced half-a-dozen USA Swimming National Junior Team members, almost a dozen YMCA National Champions, and the top-ranked female recruits in the 2016 and 2017 high school recruiting classes.

John coached my three sons, in Heidelberg, during their most formative swim years. Swimmers idolized him – parents respected and appreciated him. Well done – congratulations!
