Winterville, North Carolina native Bethany Tart is heading south to swim collegiately at the University of South Carolina beginning in the fall of 2020.

Tart has qualified for the 2019 Futures meet in the 50 free (23.69), 100 free (51.10) and 100 fly (57.42).
Most recently, she finished sixth in the 100 free (58.81) and eighth in the 50 free (27.12) at the North Carolina Swimming Long Course Senior Championships in July. That effort follows a runnerup finish in the 100 free and fourth place in the 200 free (1:51.35) at the North Carolina Short Course Senior Championships in February.
In the high school ranks, Tart was a two-time finalist at the 2019 North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A State Championships. She finished fifth in the 100 free (51.83) and seventh in the 200 free (1:53.16) in February, while swimming for South Central High School.
In 2018, Tart finished 14th in the 100 free (53.58) at the NCHSAA state meet.

Tart’s top times in the 50 free and 100 free would have ranked fifth on the 2018-19 South Carolina roster. Junior Christina Lappin finished 25th in the 50 free (22.29) at the NCAA Championships. She also was 16th in the 100 free (49.38) at the SEC Championships. Junior Emily Cornell was 10th in the 200 free (1:45.66) at the SEC meet.
