Katelyn Buono from Reno Aquatic Club in Reno, Nevada has announced her intention to swim at the University of Utah beginning in the fall of 2022.

Buono is in the class of 2022 at the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology but competes for Spanish Springs High School in Sparks, Nevada during the high school season. COVID-19 has limited her high school participation to her freshman season, however, which culminated in a 3rd in the 100 back (57.84, altitude-adjusted to 57.74) and a 4th in the 200 IM (2:07.59, adjusted to 2:06.39).
She recently achieved a USA Swimming Winter Junior Nationals time standard in the 200 back (2:00.12) at the California/Nevada Sectionals in March in St. George, Utah. She also went a best time of 55.81 in the 100 back and was a top-8 finisher in all four of her events: 100 back (3rd), 200 back (3rd), 200 IM (7th), and 400 IM (4th). In December, Buono competed at the 2020 Red Rock Invitational hosted by Utah Valley Aquatics. There, she updated her lifetime bests in the SCY 50 free and 200 free and the LCM 100 back (1:06.25).
Buono also excels in IM and has Futures cuts in both the 200 (2:05.92) and 400 (4:24.27), times she achieved at Far Westerns in April 2019.
