What is Masters Swimming? Video Feature

From Christina Wright, a SwimSwam contributor and US Masters Swimmer:

I have two main passions in life: swimming and storytelling. I swam in my first race at age five and I started writing stories in a pink diary (equipped with a locket) at age six. In 2012, after many years of pursuing both passions separately, I discovered Marquette University’s Graduate Certificate in Digital Storytelling program. Digital storytelling is the art of using writing, photography, video, and audio to tell stories. Truly, this is the way that we receive our news and entertainment every day. I enrolled in the graduate program last August. Then, a month later, I dove back into swimming after a ten year hiatus–I joined the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center’s masters team in Brown Deer, Wisconsin. A lightbulb went off–I could use my newly enhanced storytelling skills to delve into the culture of masters swimming. And so a website was born: “Swimming, A Masterful Sport.”

Just to be active and stay in some sort of shape and have some fun with others who share the same passion for the sport. That is what masters is to me.

That is a great definition! I love that masters swimming means something different to everyone. I love that you can make of it what you want. It’s a great family to be a part of.
