Garrett Hollcroft of Flower Mound, Texas has verbally committed to swim for the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio beginning with the 2017-18 season.
“I am very excited to announce that I have committed to swim for the University of Incarnate Word. I knew once I visited on my recruiting trip that this was where I wanted to spend my college career. The great coaching staff made me feel like this is where I belong and the team made me feel right at home. I can’t wait to be a Cardinal and aid the team in their first year as a Division 1 team. I am also very grateful for my amazing coaching staff who helped me get to where I am now and to where I’m going in the future.”
Hollcroft is a senior at Flower Mound High School and swims for Lakeside Aquatic Club on their National team. He has only been swimming year-round for a year, having spent the first two years of high school shuttling between water polo and swimming. As a water polo player, he played goalie and qualified for National Junior Olympics in his freshman and sophomore years with his club team, Thunder. He also placed third in the Texas 6A State Tournament two years in a row as goalie for Flower Mound High School.
Hollcroft’s swimming career has seen him improve from just qualifying for the Texas 6A State Meet as the fly leg of the medley relay during his sophomore year, to placing 14th in the 100 fly at the 6A State Meet as a junior, to qualifying for Winter Juniors in the 50m free during his first season of club swimming.
His top times are:
- 50 free: 21.28 SCY / 24.28 LCM
- 100 free: 46.58 SCY / 53.29 LCM
- 100 fly: 50.20 SCY / 58.08 LCM
