Tharon Drake has owned the S11 American Record in the 100 breaststroke for a long time, but today at the first preliminary session of the 2016 U.S. Paralympic Trials he absolutely destroyed his prior personal best. He lowered his nearly two-year old mark of 1:13.98, down to an incredible 1:10.85. That time puts him just .74 away from the World Record in the event that has stood since 2003.

Tharon took time to chat with SwimSwam after the prelim session this morning. He had a lot to say about his new American Record swim and what he thinks he has in him tonight. He also touches on what defines the S11 classification in competition and what his swimming career means not only to himself, but to others in his hometown and the swim community in general.

Take a little time to meet this veteran Paralympic athlete and be sure to watch for tonight’s results from the Paralympic Swimming Finals here on SwimSwam.

That’s actually rediculously cool. Video craps out at 23 seconds for me anybody else have a similar problem?

Just so everyone knows, not everyone is in the same classification in the heat shown.
