LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Swimming & Diving closed out the Keydet Invite with wins for both men’s and women’s squads at Goodall Pool on Saturday.
In two days, the Keydets had 17 team records broken and set 34 new program top 10 times. The men posted a massive 217-34 victory while the women came up on top, 148-101, for the most wins in seven years and earned the first female dual meet win at Goodall Pool in program history. On top of that, the women also tied for the most wins in a single season.
Day One
The Keydets have broken 11 team records and tied two records between both men’s and women’s squads. VMI Men’s Swimming & Diving leads the meet over Southern Virginia, 110-16, while VMI Women’s Swimming & Diving leads the Knights, 75-47.
Kicking off the record-breaking evening was the women’s 200 medley relay consisting of Noelle Tong, Walden Wilder, Emerson Cosner, and Mackenzie Byrne who swam to a solid time of 1:49.47. Cosner would later smash the Rat and team records in the 200 butterfly (2:10.27) right before Byrne earned a new 50 freestyle Rat and team record-breaking time (23.75).
On the boards, Isabelle Haer nabbed a 259.65 score on the one-meter dive, etching her name in the record book with a new Rat record.
For the men, Stephen Russell tallied a new 1,000 freestyle Rat and team record (9:33.37) while Jack Mills posted a top conference time and new Rat and team record in the 200 freestyle (1:38.17). Sam Castle broke the team 100 backstroke record (49.90).
Caleb Wolf tied Mill’s Rat and team record in the 200 butterfly (1:53.32).
Day Two
VMI set six team records on day two of the invitational. Mackenzie Byrne adds a new Rat and team record in the 100 freestyle (52.93) with Walden Wilder breaking the team record in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.01).
Jack Mills continues his dominant freshman campaign by destroying the Rat and team record in the 100 butterfly (49.70). The final record of the day goes to the Rat 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Sam Calder, Stephen Russell, Joshua Wolf, and Mills.

Next Up
The Keydets will wait until after the new year for their next matchup. VMI will travel to Asheville, North Carolina to face UNC Asheville in a dive-only meet on January 10. After that, the Keydets welcome a trio of teams to Goodall Pool on January 18.
