BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Catamounts won 12 swimming events Saturday afternoon, setting six pool records in the process as they defeated Rhode Island 169-127 from the Forbush Natatorium on Senior Day presented by MVP Health. Vermont completed the regular season with a record of 6-4 following Saturday’s dual meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts opened the meet with a new pool record in the 400 Yard Medley Relay. Vermont’s combo of Alexis Torykian, Ellie Fazio, Hally Laney and Havana Layton won the event by two full seconds with a time of 3:47.91.
- After the relay win the spotlight turned to senior Ella Church in the 1000 Free. She set a new pool record with a time of 10:11.03. She won the event by 18.88 seconds. Church also won the 500 Free Saturday with a time of 4:58.89.
- Laney followed up her relay win with a record-breaking performance of her own. She set a new pool record in the 200 Fly with a winning time of 2:01.54. Laney took the pool record from Binghamton’s Yun Qu, who finished fourth in the 200 Fly at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics representing China.
- Laney also won the 100 Fly (55.73) and 200 IM (2:07.03) for the Catamounts on Saturday.
- Havana Layton was the Catamounts third multi-event winner of the day. She won the 50 Free in a time of 24.09 and the 100 Free in a time of 51.79.
- Vermont’s record-breaking day extended to the breaststroke. Natalie Schlemmer set a new pool record in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:18.16 winning the event by 1.12 seconds.
- In the 100 Breast Ellie Fazio set a new pool record with a time of 1:04.02. She won the event by .23 seconds.
- Jackie House earned a win in her final day competing at UVM with a time of 1:51.97 in the 200 Free. She topped the field by 2.22 seconds.
- Julie Prues Salvador rounded out the UVM wins Saturday claiming the 100 Backstroke with a personal best collegiate time of 56.75.
- Tannah Proudfoot qualified for NCAA Zones in 3m diving Saturday with a score of 280.58 points. She finished third in the event.
- The Catamounts won today which means that Vermont Mutual Insurance will be donating $100 to the Lund Center. A special thank you to Vermont Mutual Insurance for their support. Vermont Mutual Insurance, protecting Vermonters since 1828.
WHAT’S NEXT
Vermont will return to action on February 19-22 at the 2025 America East Championships hosted at the VMI Aquatic Center in Lexington, Va. The Catamounts will be looking to defend their crown. Vermont set five varsity records last season to help clinch the program’s first-ever league title. Eight Catamounts who earned All-America East honors return for Vermont.

How It Happened
Sophomore Anna Petke set the program record in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for Rhode Island, winning both events despite the team falling 169-127 at Vermont Saturday.
Petke won the 3-meter dive with a score of 319.5, beating the rest of the field by more than 38 points. Her score of 319.5 smashed the previous URI record of 300.55 set by Lily Hsu during the 2022-23 season. Petke’s previous best in the 3-meter was a 265.25 in her first career meet at the Harold Anderson Invitational her freshman year.
Later in the meet, Petke posted a score of 303.68 in the 1-meter dive to lead a 1-2-3 sweep by Rhode Island. Olivia Winslow was second with her score of 295.50, followed by Hsu with a score of 290.10.
Petke’s mark of 303.68 broke the previous Rhode Island record of 302.55 set by Marta Baumann during the 2022-23 season. Petke’s previous career high in the 1-meter was a 278.95 on Dec. 7 of this season against Massachusetts and La Salle.
Standouts from the Pool
- Senior Maddie Tetreault won the 200-yard backstroke for Rhode Island’s lone individual swimming win of the meet. She posted a time of 2:04.66 to hold off Vermont’s Jocelyn LeGere (2:06.82).
- Tetreault added a second-place finish in the 1000-yard Freestyle with her time of 10:29.91.
- Senior Hannah Benavides took second place in both the 100-yard and 200-yard Breaststroke races. She also was part of the 400-yard Medley Relay team – along with senior Jackie Triglia, junior Ella Hacker and freshman Ella Raser – that placed second
- Sophomore Julianna Tyler and junior Ella Hacker placed second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard Butterfly.
- Hacker added a second-place finish in the 100-yard Butterfly, while Tyler was second in the 200-yard Individual Medley.

Rhode Island finishes the regular season at Central Connecticut State on Saturday, Jan. 25. It is the team’s final meet before the Atlantic 10 Championship from Feb. 19-22.
