USC Trojans Win First Duel Meet On Road At Washington State

With several of their teammates down in Dallas for the SMU Invite, the Trojans were still victorious on the road at Washington State tonight. USC won 146 to WSU’s 116.

Washington State took the first event of the meet. Emma Johansson, Frederikke Hall, Ali Mand and Haley Rose Love finished in 1:45.24 in the 200 medley.

USC struggled to find the right four swimmers for their A relay, with the fastest back and free splits on the B while the fastest middle 100 were on the A.

Nikki Chang took the 1000 freestyle in 10:12.41, with teammate Andrea Basaraba in second. In another 1-2 finish, Henriette Stenkvist had the 200 freestyle over teammate Lynette Lim, 1:50.84 to 1:51.15.

Washington State’s Johansson finished first in the 100 backstroke, 56.49, with her teammate Mand in third.

Trojan youth prevailed in the 100 breaststroke with Riley Hayward and Kelsey Kafka finishing 1-2, 1:06.17 and 1:06.33 respectively. Hall from WSU was very close behind in third at 1:06.55.

Another Trojan freshman notched their first collegiate duel meet win in the 200 butterfly. Maggie D’Innocenzo finished in 2:01.59, over WSU’s Elise Locke in 2:03.46.

For the third event in a row, freshman Evan Swenson topped the 50 freestyle, just barely over three Washington State Cougars. Swenson finished in 24.18, over Love’s 24.22, Nicole Proulx’s 24.60 and Anne Kenney’s 24.61.

Love would beat Swenson to the wall in the 100 freestyle, 52.86 to 53.06. Proulx would again be third at 53.50.

In her second win of the meet, Stenkvist finished under 2:00 just off the pool record in 1:59.88. Freshman Lexie Malazdrewicz and D’Innocenzo would finish 2-3 to their teammate.

Presley Wetterstrom and Hall would give WSU a 1-2 finish in the 200 breaststroke. They finished 2:21.30 and 2:21.46, over Brianna Weinstein from USC, 2:22.59.

Lim finished the 500 in 4:58.47, the only swimmer under 5:00. Johansson and Mand would give the Cougars another 1-2 event finish in the 100 butterfly. Johnasson’s win time was 56.26.

After a win in the 200 butterfly, D’Innocenzo would return victorious in the 200 IM in 2:04.63. She won easily by three plus seconds over WSU’s Kelly Tannhauser.

Rounding off the meet was a win by the Trojans B relay in the 400 freestyle relay.
