The USA Women’s Junior National Team claimed fifth place at the FINA Junior World Championship after a 4-2 win over Hungary earlier today. Ryann Neushul scored two goals and Amanda Longan added nine saves in the win. Team USA took a lead early on a Neushul goal with 5:42 to play in the first quarter. That advantage was short-lived as Hungary came back to score two straight goals to take a 2-1 lead after the first quarter. While they held the advantage that would be all the scoring for Hungary in this match. With 3:48 to play in the first half Lexi Liebowitz scored to tie the game at 2-2 going into halftime.

In the third quarter Neushul added her second goal in the opening minute for a 3-2 lead. Then at the 4:57 mark it was Sarah Klass putting the United States ahead 4-2. From there neither side would score as defenses took over. Both teams also struggled mightily on the advantage with Team USA going 0/6 and Hungary going 0/4. The game stayed 4-2 in favor of Team USA going to the fourth and despite both teams having power play opportunities neither found the back of the net as a scoreless final period resulted in a 4-2 win for Team USA.

Hungary went 1/1 on penalty shots while the United States went 0/1.

The fifth place finish ends a bid for three straight FINA Junior World Championship titles for the USA Women.
